Samsung has introduced yet another 5G variant of one of its existing offerings, this time with the Galaxy A23 5G. Earlier this month, the company launched the Galaxy A13 5G and has given the same treatment to the new variant of its Galaxy A23 model, which is accompanied by improved internals including a better chip from Qualcomm, more RAM, and the addition of NFC.
The 5G model sports a 6.6-inch LCD display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a resolution of 2408×1080 pixels. It comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor which doubles as a power button, as well as dual stereo speakers that have support for Dolby Atmos. On the software side, the new Galaxy A23 5G ships with One UI 4 based on Android 12 and Samsung Knox for security.
To get the 5G compatibility, Samsung replaced the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 from the 4G variant with a Snapdragon 695. It also comes with 8GB of RAM instead of six, with 128GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for memory expansion up to 1TB.
The cameras on the Galaxy A23 5G are exactly the same as the setup found on its standard counterpart, with the back featuring a 50MP main shooter with OIS, a 5MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP macro lens, and 2MP depth sensor. Meanwhile, the v-shaped notch on the display houses an 8MP selfie camera.
The phone retains the large 5,000mAh battery, and while the vanilla A23 supported 25W wired charging, Samsung did not disclose the 5G model’s charging speed. As for connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi, and comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Samsung Galaxy A23 5G is available in black, blue and orange; all of come in a matte finish. The device retails for RM1,399 but on Samsung’s online store, it is currently available for RM1,299, although it is unclear exactly how long this promotion will last.
