You may have heard of the Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 a few months ago after the Wear OS-based smartwatch made its way into the headline thanks to a recent update that made it NFT-friendly. The Swiss luxury watchmaker has recently revealed yet another iteration of the watch which was conceived through its partnership with the legendary German automobile company Porsche.
The new Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition is actually the second model to come out through the collaboration. The honour actually belonged to the more traditional Tag Heuer x Porsche Carrera Chronograph which was released last year in conjunction with the official announcement of the partnership.
For this release, both companies took some inspiration from the all-electric Porsche Taycan which is actually available in Malaysia since 2020 and currently has a starting price of RM524,000. For starters, Tag Heuer has adopted the EV’s frozen blue colourway as part of the watch colour theme.
The watchmaker has also created a watchface which is available exclusively for the Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition that features a printed circuit board as its design motif. The smartwatch also comes with several complications that can display the status of your Porsche including total mileage, car battery or fuel level, and remaining range as well as the ability to quickly open the My Porsche Wear OS app to control the car’s heating or air conditioning.
That being said, these complications can only be utilised with certain Porsche vehicles. The compatible list includes Panamera, 911, Cayenne, Macan, and 718 in addition to the Taycan itself.
As for its physical attributes, the smartwatch features a 45mm black case made from titanium that is protected by diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating. It also features a ceramic bezel that features a scale from 0 to 400 which is a reference to Porsche’s car speed.
In addition to that, the Connected Calibre E4 also comes standard with a flat sapphire crystal on top of its 1.39-inch OLED display that has 454 x 454 resolution and a pixel density of 326ppi. With a water resistance rating of 50 meters, it has also been equipped with a steel-rubber crown and steel push buttons alongside a titanium case back that also features Tag Heuer x Porsche engraving to mark the watch’s special nature.
The Porsche Edition smartwatch also has a leather strap with a matching colourway and rubber base. Tag Heuer has provided a spare black rubber strap alongside the watch in the box which is also inclusive of a charging dock and a USB-C cable.
Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear processor, Tag Heuer claimed that the watch’s 430mAh battery is able to deliver all-day battery life while it takes around 1.5 hours of charging time for the smartwatch to be fully charged. The NFC-enabled Connected Calibre E4 also has the usual array of sensors that you may expect from a smartwatch including heart rate, accelerometer and gyroscope together with a barometer and compass.
The same goes for the sports app inside the watch which allows users to track their workouts such as running, cycling, swimming, golf, and general fitness. Being a special edition release, the watch does cost a little bit extra when compared to the standard version though.
According to Tag Heuer Malaysia’s official website, the Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition carries a price tag of RM11,300. As a comparison, other variants of Connected Calibre E4 45mm are priced from RM8,350 to RM10,900.
On the other hand, the price for the 42mm version can be obtained from RM7,750 to RM8,150. Interesting enough, Tag Heuer has a program that allows existing Connected smartwatch owners to trade in their current watch in exchange for a rebate of RM840 to RM1,880 to purchase the latest Connected model.
