ASUS announced the ROG Phone 6 and the Pro variant early last month. Despite the Pro distinction, the two of them are largely the same device barring RAM and storage capacities and one major cosmetic difference. Now, the company is teasing a new variant, called the ASUS ROG Phone 6D Ultimate.
In addition to the new Ultimate moniker, there will be one major difference between this new model and the preceding ones. And the hint lies in the letter next to the number. To spell it out, the upcoming model will be sporting a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset rather than a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen1. It’s a variant that makes sense, since the two high-end chipsets are largely comparable in terms of overall performance.

The official teaser for the ASUS ROG Phone 6D Ultimate is very light on details beyond the chipset. But judging from the base and Pro models, it is probably safe to say that the Ultimate will also be pretty similar to the preceding models, chipset aside. Should that really end up being the case, that means a 6.78-inch AMOLED Full HD+ display with a 165Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch sampling rate and a 6000mAh battery that supports 65W charging. Cameras would also probably be the familiar 50MP main + 13MP wide angle and a macro shooter at the back, and a 12MP camera in front.
Also going by the first two models, we can probably expect some variations in RAM and storage capacity configurations. Which will ultimately determine the price of the ASUS ROG Phone 6D Ultimate. For what it’s worth, the teaser also comes with an announcement date of 19 September. So it’s still about three weeks away before we find out for sure. That’s not to mention local pricing and availability details, which could take awhile more.
