Alongside a new smartphone, HONOR has announced a new tablet called the HONOR Pad 8, which will soon be available locally. The device was launched in China last month and though the brand has finally decided to bring it over to Malaysia, it is only offered in a single configuration. On that note, the device will be priced significantly higher here compared to its home market.
The HONOR Pad 8 is a 12-inch tablet that sports a 2000×1200 pixel IPS panel with a peak brightness of 350 nits and a 60Hz refresh rate. Being a relatively affordable device, the company decided to not include a fingerprint scanner. It also lacks a 3.5mm audio jack, but the tablet is equipped with a total of eight speakers with DTS:X Ultra support.
The new slate runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. You are out of luck if you need more than that as it does not come with a higher configuration or a microSD slot, but it can convert 2GB of unused storage as additional memory. As for the cameras, it houses a single 5MP sensor on both the back as well as the front, which is placed on the side bezel for horizontal video calling.
The Pad 8 features MagicUI 6.1 based on Android 11, complete with multi-tasking tools such as Smart-Multi-Window and Multi-Screen Collaboration, which lets you mirror and control your HONOR phone on your tablet. It also supports dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1.
Powering the new device is a large 7,250mAh battery that HONOR claims allows it to run for 14 hours when watching offline videos. The tablet juices up with the included 22.5W charger, with the brand’s China website stating that it takes 126 minutes to charge.
The HONOR Pad 8 will retail for RM1,399 for the 6GB+128GB variant starting from 27 August. It will be available for purchase on the company’s official Shopee and Lazada shop, with an extended warranty being offered while stocks last.
