Buying used electronics is a great way to both save money and minimise your carbon footprint, but making purchases from random sellers can sometimes be daunting, as you never know whether or not you’re being lied to about the condition of the products. Carousell has launched a new programme called InstantBuy Mobile, which promises to do away with your worries when shopping for a secondhand phone.
The new programme assures that all the phones under it are from authorised partners, and comes with several protections to instil confidence in potential customers. One of which is that all sellers under InstantBuy are SSM-registered and have at least a 4.9 rating on the platform.
Carousell says that each phone is professionally inspected using over 40 quality checkpoints, with a condition report on each product page so you know exactly what you are buying, classified into three categories of aesthetic condition. InstantBuy phones also come with a compatible charger in the box.
The used devices come with a 12-month warranty, which costs an additional RM99. Under the warranty, the first 30 days cover both hardware and software defects while the remaining 11 months exempt consumable parts such as batteries, as well as software issues.
Within the warranty period, customers can only make a maximum of two claims for each device and if the repair costs exceed the price of the phone, you will have to do an exchange instead. The company also offers a seven-day return policy, but it is only applicable for wrong or damaged products, not change of mind.
InstantBuy is an invite-only programme, but secondhand phone sellers interested in becoming a partner can apply through their form. All the purchases are made through Carousell Protection, and while it usually charges a 4% fee, the FAQ says there are no transaction fees for InstantBuy.
