It looks like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip4 isn’t the only newly introduced compact foldable phone this week. Launched earlier today alongside two other flagship-tier handsets by Lenovo-owned smartphone brand Motorola is the 2022 Razr. This time around, the foldable packs a number of significant upgrades over its predecessor from 2020; including a larger display, a current generation flagship chipset, new design, and plenty more.
Motorola has further improved the design of the 2022 Razr by getting rid of the large “chin” at the bottom, replacing the internal display’s notch with a punch-hole cutout, and adding in an all-new hinge mechanism. The phone’s 6.7-inch OLED inner screen is a huge jump from its predecessor’s 6.2-inch offering, which also features HDR10+ support, a refresh rate of 144Hz , and an under-display fingerprint scanner. Meanwhile, situated on its top exterior shell is a 2.7-inch OLED screen that can function as a notification bar, clock, and a viewfinder for the phone’s primary cameras.
Internally, the phone is equipped with Qualcomm’s most current flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which is paired together with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Besides that, the 2022 Razr also comes with a dual speaker system with Dolby Atmos support, Android 12 via Motorola’s MYUI 4.0 platform, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC connectivity. Powering the device is a 3,500mAh battery, though the company did not mention whether it features fast charging support.
As for its imaging capabilities, the dual camera setup featured on the new Razr’s upper shell consists of a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 13MP ultra-wide shooter with 121-degree field of view (FOV). Situated in its inner display’s cutout, meanwhile, is a 32MP selfie camera.
The 2022 Motorola Razr is available for pre-order in China, and is only offered in three different memory configurations. In terms of pricing, the 8GB + 128GB configuration will retail at CNY 5,999 (~RM 3,957), the 8GB + 256GB at CNY 6,499 (~RM 4,287), while the top-end 12GB + 512GB version is priced at CNY 7,299 (~RM 4,815). Motorola has yet to reveal whether it plans on having its latest compact foldable smartphone available to other regions.
