If the Swift series is the home to Acer’s thin and light laptops, then the Aspire series represents the company’s mainstream offerings. Launched alongside the 2022’s Swift 5 at the recent Acer Day 2022, the company has also rolled out the latest iteration of Aspire 3 and Aspire 5 into our market.
Over the years, both models have been offered with a variety of specs and screen sizes. For this batch of releases, both models feature a 15.6-inch Full HD display and run on a selection of 12th Gen Intel Core processors.
Let’s start with the Aspire 3 which can be obtained in four configurations with the base model having the Core i3-1215U with Intel UHD Graphics, 8GB RAM, 256GB PCIe NVMe solid state drive and a price tag of RM2,499. If you are willing to fork out a little more at RM2,899, you would then get 512GB SSD alongside the more powerful Core i5-1235U chip that also has Intel Iris Xe Graphics.
For RM3,399, you can opt to have the NVIDIA GeForce MX550 2GB GDDR6 VRAM graphics with the laptop which also has Willow Green colourway as opposed to Pure Silver on other variants. As for the range-topper Aspire 3 which costs RM3,699, it has a Core i7-1255U and 16GB RAM but the SSD still remains 512GB and it relies on the integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics instead of dedicated graphics.
Meanwhile, the base model for Aspire 5 also features Core i3-1215U and 8GB of RAM but has a larger 512GB SSD instead and costs RM100 more than its Aspire 3 counterpart at RM2,599. Customers can switch to a more powerful variant that has a Core i5-1235U chip for RM3,099 which still carries 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD.
Since both models have the same design language and feature a 15.6-inch display, it may seem hard to differentiate them. So, do pay attention to their base as the Aspire 5 has a matching colourway and smooth surface while the Aspire 3 was equipped with a black texturized plastic bottom instead.
Additionally, it seems that Aspire 5’s has more thermal fins as compared to Aspire 3. Not to forget, there is no USB-C port on Aspire 3 while Aspire 5 not only has been equipped with such a port, it is also capable of supporting USB3.2 Gen 2 and Thunderbolt 4 standards.
Regarding their availability, these Alder Lake-based Aspire 3 and Aspire 5 can be obtained immediately from Acer Malaysia eStore and the brand’s official store on Shopee. Alternatively, they are also available at all authorised Acer dealers all over the country.
