HONOR today has revealed that it will launch a 5G-enabled variant of its X8 smartphone in Malaysia next month. This particular model also differs in more ways than one when compared to the original, which launched locally back in March of this year.
The new HONOR X8 5G sports a slightly smaller display measuring at 6.5-inches, which features an IPS LCD panel, 720 x 1600 pixel resolution, and 20:9 aspect ratio. Also onboard is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a loudspeaker, and USB-C 2.0 port for data transfer and charging. In terms of colour options, the phone is offered in either Midnight Black or Ocean Blue.
Internally, the 5G variant packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ chipset, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, and expanded storage support of up to 2TB via microSD. Despite its older manufacturing process and lower clock speeds, the SoC is reported to be a more powerful alternative when compared to the original’s Snapdragon 680 chip.
Powering the phone is a larger 5,000 mAh battery, which comes with 22.5W fast charging capability. Besides that, it also comes with Android 11 via HONOR’s Magic UI 4.2 interface, as well as Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.
For imaging, housed within the phone’s square camera array is a triple-camera setup that consists of a 48MP f/1.8 primary shooter, a 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. This is somewhat a downgrade over the original’s quad-camera setup which featured a 64MP f/1.8 primary sensor. Meanwhile, housed within the notch on the X8 5G’s display is an 8MP front-facing camera.
