ASUS Malaysia today has announced two new ROG-branded gaming laptops for the local market. The first being the 12th Gen Intel Core i9-equipped ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition and the second being the AMD Ryzen 7-equipped 2022 ROG Flow X16 convertible, which is offered in two different configurations.
Starting with the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition, this particular model features a 17.3-inch IPS anti-glare display with WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixel) resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 240 Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision HDR support. According to the company, it comes with a” distinct cyberpunk aesthetic” which features a first-of-its-kind invisible ink decoration that will appear green and blue under UV light. The laptop measures in at a width of 39.5 cm, depth at 28.2 cm and height at 2.34 ~ 2.83 cm, with a weight measurement of 3.10 kg.
Under the hood, the SCAR 17 Special Edition is equipped with a 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12950HX processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 16GB GDDR6 GPU, 32GB DDR5-4800 RAM, and 1TB + 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 Performance SSD (RAID 0). ASUS adds that the device also comes with a “cutting-edge” cooling system that consists of a custom vapour chamber, as well as the ROG exclusive Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal applied to both the CPU and GPU.
Besides that, the laptop features a 90WHrs 4S1P 4-cell lithium-ion battery (with 330W AC adapter included), ASUS ROG’s Aura Sync lighting, quad-speaker system with Smart Amplifier Technology and Dolby Atmos enhancements, a built-in array microphone with AI noise cancelling, backlit Chiclet keyboard and touchpad, Windows 11 Home, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support. Connectivity-wise, also onboard are two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with DisplayPort compatibility, a Thunderbolt 4 port with DisplayPort compatibility, a LAN port, a HDMI 2.1 port, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack.
Next up is the ASUS ROG Flow X16, which is offered in two variants: GV601R-MM6110W and GV601R-WM5100W. The former comes with a 16-inch IPS display while the latter features a 16-inch Mini LED panel. Regardless of choice, both panels feature QHD (2460 x 1600 pixel) resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, and 165 Hz refresh rate. Despite featuring premium parts and hardware (which we’ll get to in a bit), the convertible laptop sports a thin and light form factor that measures at 35.5 x 24.3 x 1.94 cm, and weighs approximately 2 kg (2.10 kg for the WM5100W).
Internally, both variants pack an AMD Ryzen 7 6800HS processor, which is paired together with 16GB DDR5-4800 RAM and 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD. What also sets either model apart from one another is their onboard graphics acceleration, where the MM6110W comes with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6 GPU, whereas the WM5100W features an RTX 3080 Ti 8GB GDDR6. Managing the Flow X16’s temperatures is the all-new ROG Frost Force technology and Pulsar Heatsink which consists of three fans and a high density heatsink.
Power-wise, the duo is equipped with a 90WHrs battery, with a 200W (240W for the latter) AC adapter included in the package. Also onboard is a quad-speaker system with Smart Amp technology and Dolby Atmos enhancements, built-in 3-microphone array with AI noise cancelling, 720p HD IR camera, Aura Sync support, Windows 11 Home, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support. In terms of connectivity, the convertible comes with two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort and power delivery compatibility, an ROG XG Mobile Interface, a HDMI 2.0b switch, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack.
According to the brand, both devices are now available in Malaysia. The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition is priced at RM 17,999, while the ROG Flow X16 GV601R-MM6110W and GV601R-WM5100W are priced at RM 9,499 and RM 11,999 respectively.
It’s also worth noting that packaged together with the SCAR 17 are ROG-branded products including a Keystone, backpack, Delta headset, and a Chakram Core gaming mouse. Meanwhile, included together with the ROG Flow X16 MM6110W is a backpack, ASUS Pen and a Chakram Core gaming mouse, whereas the WM5100W comes with just the first two mentioned.
