After launching a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 flagship last month under its Red Magic sub-brand, Nubia has unveiled its own device running the top-tier chip from Qualcomm. The Nubia Z40S Pro is a refresh of its recent Z40 Pro flagship, bringing some noticeable upgrades with two versions of the phone.
The Z40S Pro, of course, runs on the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and to compensate for that extra power, it is equipped with a bigger vapour chamber as well as a graphene sheet and thermal paste with synthetic diamonds to keep the phone cool. It can be configured with 8, 12 or 18GB of RAM with between 128GB and 1TB of storage.
Just like its predecessor, the Z40S Pro has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. Additionally, It has an optical under-display fingerprint sensor as well as stereo speakers. Connectivity-wise, the phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC.
When it comes to the battery life, the refreshed flagship comes in two variations. There’s one with a 5,000mAh battery with 80W wired charging and no wireless charging; and another one with a 4,600mAh battery with 120W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
As for cameras, the rear module features a 64MP main shooter with OIS, an 8MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide, as well as a six-LED flash and a flicker sensor. On the front, you’ll find a punch hole cutout housing a 16MP selfie camera.
The Nubia Z40S Pro starts at only CNY3,400 (~RM2,237) for the base 8GB+128GB model with 80W charging, making it the cheapest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 phone to date. As for the 120W version, that starts at CNY4,300 (~RM2,830) for 12GB+256GB and tops out at CNY6,700 (RM4,400) for 18GB+1TB.
There is also a special edition with 120W charging and 12GB+256GB, styled after the Chinese animated series “Spirit Cage”. Nubia has made no mention of whether the Z40S Pro series will be coming to Malaysia.
