At the recent launch of its new Malaysian division, Great Wall Motor (GWM) revealed its intention to launch the Ora Good Cat EV in our market. As it turns out, you are already able to place your bookings with the company’s long-time local partner, Go Auto Global.
This can be done through the mini-site that Go Auto has set up on GWM Malaysia’s official website. While it is clear from the website that the price for the EV has not yet been finalized, customers can expect to pay between RM140k to RM170k depending on which of the four variants they choose.
Specifically, the base Tech trim, as well as the slightly higher-end Pro option, are expected to cost under RM150k. For the premium variety which is called Ultra, the estimated price is within the RM150k range while those who want to go all out with the Ultra G trim, get ready to pay more than RM160k.
Powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 47.78 kWh, both the Tech and Pro options are able to travel up to 400km according to NEDC standards. On the other hand, the Ultra and Ultra G options are powered by a larger 63.13 kWh ternary lithium battery instead which increased their maximum range to 500km.
When it comes to charging time, GWM Thailand’s website said that the Good Cat takes around 32 minutes to go from 30% to 80% when charged using DC fast charger or 8 hours with an AC charger. That being said, the site did not list down the EV’s actual power draw figures.
All four variants of the Good Cat are equipped with a 105kW front-mounted electric motor that can deliver maximum power of 143PS and up to 210N.m of torque. In addition to that, they also have a maximum speed of 152km/h.
Being a base trim, the seats for the Tech variant of Good Cat are draped in black fabric. This is opposed to the synthetic leather on the higher-end variants.
Similarly, the Tech option is equipped with 17-inch steel wheels while the Pro, Ultra, and Ultra G come with bigger 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
There are plenty of other features that are only available to Pro and Ultra variants including a 360-degree camera system, wireless charger for phones, electric panoramic sunroof, and auto-sensing wipers. Additionally, there are also the auto emergency brake, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and cornering brake control – just to name a few.
Not to forget, the Tech trim colour options are limited to Sun Black and Hamilton White while there are additional options for the Pro and Ultra variants including the Coral Blue as well as Mars Red which comes with a black roof. The black roof option is also available for Hamilton White’s Pro and Ultra, in case you prefer two-tone colourways instead of a matching roof.
Meanwhile, we are not sure what really made the Ultra G option different from the Ultra trim aside from its colourways which seemed to be exclusive to that particular option. Among them is the Hazel Wood Beige which has a roof in Wisdom Brown paint job as well as a brown and beige interior.
The Ultra G trim can also be obtained in Verdant Green which has a white roof alongside a green and grey interior. Covered by an 8-year 180,000km warranty, the pre-booking fee for the Good Cat EV has been set at RM1,000 and delivery is expected to take place sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
