sooka, the freemium streaming service by Astro, is now officially available on Samsung and LG smart TVs. Prior to this, the service was only accessible by those who own Sony and Sharp TVs, which was launched earlier this year in February.
Unlike the latter two which run on Android TV, both Samsung and LG smart TVs use their own first party Android-based operating systems: Tizen OS and WebOS, respectively. So instead of Play Store, users will need to access each platform’s app store in order to download the sooka application. From there, everything else is pretty much similar to how the streaming service operates on Sony and Sharp TVs.
To recap, sooka’s smart TV service differs from its web and mobile versions. On the larger screen, users are required to subscribe to its VIP TV subscription, which costs RM 84.90 per month. This enables them to enjoy all of the streaming service’s premium content under the VIP+Sports and VIP Entertainment plans, and also allows concurrent viewing access to one smart TV and two mobile devices.
In conjunction with its launch on Samsung and LG TVs, sooka is offering new customers a “Buy 1 month, Free 1 month” promotion for a limited time, starting 16 June until 15 July 2022. As implied by the campaign’s name, new users are entitled to receive the second month of VIP TV subscription for free after subscribing for the first time via the streaming service’s official website. This promotion also applies to Sony and Sharp smart TV owners who are newly subscribed to sooka within the aforementioned period.
Meanwhile, those who still wish to enjoy the service’s offerings on a smaller screen may opt for its more affordable VIP Entertainment or VIP+Sports plans for mobile devices and web instead. For your reference, these are priced at RM 15.90 and RM 41.90 respectively.
