We now have a confirmed date for the launch of the phone (1), Nothing’s first ever smartphone. According to the company via its official website, the event will be held next month – more specifically, on 12 July 2022.
This official announcement dispels a prior rumour by German tech publication Allround-PC, which suggested that the reveal of the Nothing phone (1) to take place on 21 July. As you may recall from our coverage last month, the website also alleged that the handset will retail around EUR 500 (~RM 2,348) at launch – a figure that may turn out to be incorrect as well, but we’ll only know for certain in due time.
Unlearn. Undo. Starting with phone (1).

“It’s our first smartphone, and our most important product,” Nothing said in its announcement. “The real start of Nothing’s journey. To make tech fun again.”
The company’s statement follows on Nothing CEO Carl Pei’s promise from its “The Truth” virtual keynote back in March, where he claimss the phone (1) to be “a wake up call that the industry needs.” However, little is still known about the upcoming product, though the company did confirm prior to this that its first ever smartphone will feature an unspecified Snapdragon chipset, a similar transparent design approach to its ear (1) earbuds, and an in-house operating system based on the Android platform.
And just in case you missed it, the launcher version of the first-party system (known as Nothing OS) is now available via Google Play Store if you wish to try it out in a bite-sized preview. Initially available for the Samsung Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 as well as Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 6, the launcher is now compatible on all smartphones that are running on Android 11 and above.
The Nothing phone (1) launch will be live streamed via the company’s official website at 4pm BST (11pm local time) on 12 July 2022. Those interested may also RSVP for the event through this link.
