Rumours have suggested that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4, along with the Z Flip4, are set to launch sometime during the third quarter of this year, which is also more or less the same time that the Korean electronics brand hosts its second Unpacked event for the year. Now though, a recent leak about the Z Fold4’s specifications made its way online, and the news is that the updates aren’t too grand.
According to Twitter user Yogesh Bhar (@heyitsyogesh), the update to the Z Fold4’s hardware will definitely be an improvement over the Z Fold3‘s, but those upgrades are expected to be incremental, rather than major. For that matter, the foldable smartphone is expected to house Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 SoC, between 12GB and 16GB of RAM, and an internal storage capacity between 256GB and 512GB.
Additional specifications of the Z Fold4 include a 7.6-inch Super AMOLED QXGA+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate when unfolded, while the cover display is expected to be a 6.2-inch panel, with HD+ resolution and the same 120Hz refresh rate. As for the camera, it seems that Samsung is retaining the same triple-camera module as the Z Fold3, only this time, one of the sensors will reportedly be a 50MP main shooter, rather than making it 12MP across the board.
As for the under-display camera of the Z Fold4, Yogesh says that the camera sensor is expected to be 16MP, a bump up from the original 4MP that the Z Fold3 has, while the cover display’s selfie camera remains the same at 10MP. For power, the battery of the Z Fold4 remains unchanged at 4400W and will support 25W fast-charging. Oh, and it is expected to be 5G capable.
Beyond that, there are no further details about the phone, but based on the rumoured information, it is safe to say that the alleged specs of the Z Fold4 feel on the nose, especially when you take into account what its predecessor used. As we said at the start of the article, the hardware changes are less of a grand gesture, and more minor increments in areas that matter.
Of course, the one thing that wasn’t mentioned in Yogesh’s tweet was whether or not the Z Fold 4 will actually ship out with an S Pen this time, or not. Either way, we’ll just have to wait until the next Unpacked event. So, pinch of salt and all that.
