You probably don’t have to be a fan of video games to be familiar with the name Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Released all the way back in 2004, it has made reappearances back in 2020. And in slightly over a week’s time, it will also be available on the Nintendo Switch.
The announcement came as part of the Star Wars Celebration event. As a modern re-release of the game, this version of the Knights of the Old Republic II will come with some performance enhancements and resolution upgrades. Though from the trailer, these don’t seem too substantial, as you can still see the age of the game quite clearly.
That being said, one definite bonus of getting this version of the Knights of the Old Republic II is what’s dubbed as Restored Content DLC. This will be available for free shortly after the game’s release. As for what exactly is this Restored Content, it is the bits that were cut from the final version of the game due to the lack of development time.
According to Engadget, Obsidian Entertainment, the devs for the original version of the Knights of the Old Republic II, was forced to cut content to make the game’s original deadline. This included an entire playable planet. A mod with the same name is available for the Steam version of the game, but it remains to be seen if this Restored Content DLC will effectively be the “official” version of the mod.
Going back to this Nintendo Switch port of the Knights of the Old Republic II, it is being done by Aspyr Media, which also handled its Android and iOS ports. The studio is also working on a PS5 remake of the original game.
