Sony has officially unveiled the LinkBuds S, the latest entry to its new LinkBuds line of audio products. For those who’ve been keeping track, the new earbuds’ announcement isn’t much of a surprise anymore, thanks to several leaks that have emerged online weeks ahead of its reveal – including the one by a reliable source, WinFuture, which we’ve reported yesterday.
Needless to say, the conventional design of the newly launched LinkBuds S is something that we’re acquainted with by now. As we have covered before, Sony’s latest TWS shares some resemblance to the WF-1000XM4 model in terms of looks, but with noticeable differences – such as featuring a more rounded look and visible exterior mics for its built-in noise filtering capabilities. Similarly, the buds are controlled by touch-based interactions, which is done by tapping or swiping on either side.
Additionally, they’re more lightweight than the company’s flagship buds, coming in at only 4.8 g – as opposed to the XM4’s weight of 7.3 g. The newer earbuds are also waterproof, with a rating IPX4 – making them ideal for workouts and such.
Besides that, featured on the LinkBuds S are 5mm audio drivers, active noise cancelling (ANC), Speak-To-Chat, and two new features from Sony: Auto Play and Adaptive Sound Control. The former allows for automatic playback controls; such as playing music when the buds detect that you’re out for a walk, and pausing it when you take them out from your ears. The latter, on the other hand, automatically adjusts audio output volume and ANC sensitivity based on your environment, ensuring that you remain aware of your surroundings.
The company says the new earbuds are capable of lasting 6 hours of music playback, and a total of 14 hours when used together with their accompanying case. Furthermore, they can also last up to 9 hours on a single charge when used with ANC deactivated, and a five-minute charge via the case is claimed to allow for up to 60 minutes of play time.
Sony Malaysia has confirmed that the new Sony LinkBuds S is slated to arrive in Malaysia on 7 June 2022, and is offered in three colour options: Black, White and Ecru. According to the company’s online store, the earbuds are priced at RM 929, with the option to pre-order now available. However, the Ecru option appears to be missing from the colour selection, which could mean that it’ll only be available at a later date.
