Last month, leakster SnoopyTech presented us with product renders of an unannounced pair of Sony earbuds allegedly known as the LinkBuds S. Surprisingly, the new product skips out on the situational awareness design approach of the first model under the line that was released earlier this year, and instead features a more conventional look. While the initial leak did not provide much about the device, new information regarding its key features and more has now made its way online, thanks to the folks over at WinFuture.
Along with the details, the publication also released a set of photos of the Sony LinkBuds S, which corroborates with SnoopyTech’s leak. WinFuture adds the new earbuds will be much smaller and lighter than the original LinkBuds model, reportedly weighing at just 4.8g. In addition, it is believed that the new buds come with an IPX4 rating for sweat and water resistance, and are offered in three colour options: white, black and beige.
Meanwhile, under the hood of the LinkBuds S are said to be 5mm audio drivers, which are smaller than the ones featured on the flagship Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds – further suggesting that this model is likely aimed to be mid-range release from the Japanese company. However, WinFuture says the device does inherit some features from Sony’s high-end earbuds, including active noise cancelling (ANC) and the Speak-To-Chat feature, which automatically pauses music playback when it is detected that the user is conversing with someone. Additionally, it is also believed it comes with Adaptive Sound Control, a feature that automatically adjusts audio output based on your surroundings.
As for battery life, WinFuture suggests the new Sony LinkBuds S offers 6 hours of playback time on a single charge. With the combined chargers from its accompanying case, the buds are said to provide a total runtime of up to 20 hours. For reference, the first LinkBuds model only offers 5.5 hours on a single charge, and up to an additional 12 hours via its included charging case.
Though its exact date of launch is not known, the publication says Sony is planning to debut the LinkBuds S sometime this month. Pricing-wise, it is said that the buds are expected to retail at EUR 199 (~RM 920), which is slightly higher than the initial model.
