Garmin has officially launched the new Instinct 2 smartwatch series today in Malaysia. The series consists of two models, the 45mm Instinct 2 and the smaller 40mm Instinct 2S, which are also offered in four different variants. Interested buyers may choose between the solar or non-solar standard versions of the watches, the camo editions, or the solar tactical variants.
As part of Garmin’s battery life focused smartwatch lineup, the new Instinct 2 series – like its predecessor – comes with a monochrome, sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel displays which are designed to be energy efficient. Even though the watches lack the ability to display colour, Garmin still offers users with a variety of customisable watch faces, including some new designs that are exclusive to the Asian region.
Both Instinct 2 models and their respective variants are equipped with a fiber-reinforced polymer casing, QuickFit compatible straps, multi-satellite positioning support (GPS, GLONASS and Galileo), Bluetooth connectivity, Android and iOS compatibility, and are rated at 10ATM in terms of water resistance. They also come with phone-to-watch notifications and alerts, a variety of sensors including heart rate and blood oxygen levels, as well as numerous built-in health and workout features, such as sleep monitoring, women’s health monitoring and so on. Meanwhile, exclusively available on the Tactical Edition of the watches is the Stealth Mode and Kill Switch feature that are meant to aid military operatives hide their presence in the field.
In terms of battery life, Garmin claims that the standard and camo editions of the Instinct 2 and 2S watches can last over 20 days in smartwatch mode on a single charge, with the longest possible usage duration of over 50 days in Max Battery GPS mode. The solar editions, on the other hand, are touted to feature near-unlimited battery life – provided that they receive sufficient exposure to sunlight.
The new Garmin Instinct 2 and 2S watches are available in Malaysia starting today via its official online stores on Lazada, Shopee and AECO e-store, as well as authorised retailers nationwide. In terms of pricing, the standard edition is going for RM1,630, the camo at RM1,860, the solar at RM2,099, and finally the solar tactical edition at RM2,330. All watches under the series are also available in a variety of colour options for every edition.
