Electronic Arts officially announced that it is working on a Dead Space remake in August last year. Though no release date was announced, GamesBeat reported that the publisher was internally looking at an October 2022 release. It looks like those internal plans have been delayed to next year.
In another report, GamesBeat claims that EA is “taking extra time to ensure it gives the game enough time to wow fans when it returns”. For what it’s worth, the game got delayed from late 2022 to early 2023, so at the very least it’s not a whole year’s worth of waiting.
Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing. After all, EA and in-house developer Motive Studios intend for the Dead Space remake to be on the same level as Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake. It’s definitely a high bar to reach for, and at least the publisher is aware that it takes time to achieve such a feat.
That being said, EA doesn’t have the best of track records so far. The company shut down Visceral Games, the original developers of Dead Space, after forcing microtransactions into the third game, causing a game in an already niche genre to underperform. Then there’s the publisher’s handling of Battlefield 2042 by another in-house developer DICE.
