The Valkyrie Profile series has not had a new entry since 2009, unless you count the mobile title that came out in 2019. Square Enix has announced a new game in the series, Valkyrie Elysium, which also looks like quite the departure from the original in terms of gameplay.
From the trailer, Valkyrie Elysium is an action RPG, with combat that’s reminiscent of NieR: Replicant. There’s the returning mechanic of recruiting other characters to the party, which are AI controlled similar to FFXV.
Plot details are scarce, but from the Valkyrie Elysium trailer alludes to one that’s similar to the original game. A disembodied voice, presumably that of Odin, mentions Ragnarok, the Norse equivalent of Armageddon. He also asks the valkyrie to “become my tool of intervention and save this world from doom”. For all we know, this could be a reboot of the series.
Valkyrie Elysium is set to release this year, but no exact date has been specified. Square Enix will probably announce this later, and on that note, we can probably expect it to be out near the year-end holidays. But what we know for sure is that it will be released on the PS5, PS4, and on PC via Steam.
