The Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Singapore’s Changi Airport opened back in late November last year. Soon it will be the turn of the VTL between Penang International Airport and Changi Airport. And it’s set to happen as soon as the middle of this month.
According to Bernama, Penang state tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said that the authorities have agreed with the implementation of the Penang-Singapore VTL. Preparations of implementing it at the Penang International Airport are also going smoothly.
Yeoh said that Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) had carried out detailed preparations at the airport to ensure that the VTL flights proceeded smoothly. He also said that the airport has also set up a medical lab for screening tests. As mentioned, said VTL flights are expected to start from mid-March, though no specific date was mentioned.
Malaysia is currently looking to expand its VTL list to include more countries. This includes Australia, to which Malaysia Airlines has recently resumed flights. Though since the VTL has not yet been established, travellers to the country may still be subjected to quarantine depending on the state they are flying to.
