Sonos has launched the Roam SL, a more affordable variant of its portable speaker that was released about a year prior. Unlike the original, the new model lacks a built-in microphone and certain features that rely on the component.
Despite the aforementioned omissions, the Sonos Roam SL is mostly identical to its sibling in terms of design, audio output, and so on. These include featuring a waterproof and dust-resistant body with an IP67 rating, tactile buttons, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, two Class-H digital amplifiers, one tweeter, and one mid-woofer. Similarly, Sonos says the new portable speaker also offers around 10 hours of playback on a single charge.
Features-wise, the device comes with the same ability to link multiple Roam-class speakers together, a customisable EQ, and compatibility with over 100 music streaming services. However, due to the lack of a built-in microphone, the SL does not feature the original Roam’s Auto Trueplay tuning capability or support for voice assistants.
So if you don’t mind missing out on a small number of features, you’ll be glad to know that the new Roam SL will be arriving in Malaysia on 15 March via Trysonos.my or Sonos’ official online store on Lazada. The new portable speaker will retail at RM 1,099 which, interestingly enough, is the same price as last year’s model when it debuted locally last year. That being said, Sonos seems to have quietly increased the price of the former to RM1,199.
And just in case you missed it, also be sure to check out our review of the original Roam.
