NieR: Automata released five years ago on the PlayStation 4 and PC. The sequel to a cult niche received raving reviews throughout, catapulting the series almost squarely into the mainstream. And it looks like it’s only going to get more mainstream from here on, as an anime adaptation for it has been announced.
A new website and Twitter account has been set up to make the announcement, alongside a teaser trailer on the Aniplex YouTube channel. Though they don’t really reveal much besides the fact that the NieR: Automata anime adaptation is happening.
According to DualShockers, the adaptation will be handled by A-1 Pictures. A subsidiary of Aniplex, the studio is responsible for many popular shows like the Sword Art Online, Seven Deadly Sins, Black Butler and Fairly Tale series, just to name a few. 86 is also one of the best shows out there currently, and the second season isn’t even done yet.
But back to NieR: Automata. There’s no release date for the TV show adaptation just yet. But considering the announcement was just recently made, it will likely be awhile before we get more news on that front. If A-1 really is behind the wheel on this one, then its quality is almost assured.
