GoPro will be adding two new models alongside its current Hero and Max camera lineup in 2023, according to The Verge. Citing the action camera maker’s founder and CEO, Nick Woodman, the upcoming devices are expected to be premium-tiered specialised cameras that would “appeal to entirely different groups of users.”
No further details were provided on how these newer models would specifically differ from its existing lineups. However, Woodman did mention that the devices will still be based on GoPro’s existing technology, and may be targeted towards the professional camera market.
The Verge says that the company’s roadmap also includes “new cloud capabilities and an all-new subscription-based desktop application.” Again, GoPro did not elaborate further regarding these nor provided an expected date of release.
Interestingly, the action camera maker also stated that it has no plans of returning to releasing multi-tiered devices under a single series, which it describes as the “good / better / best” business model. For context, GoPro used to launch several models under its Hero lineup, namely the White, Silver, and Black variants – an approach that it has since retired, with the Hero 7 series being the last to launch with more than one model. Currently, the lineup is accompanied by the Black branding, which is essentially the higher-end variant amongst the three.
Given that the new models won’t be reaching store shelves at least until sometime in 2023, it would definitely be a while until GoPro is ready to officially unveil them. That being said, we’ll likely find out more regarding the new cameras much later this year.
