Ubisoft launched its original battle royale title Hyper Scape back in July of 2020. The publisher has announced that, come 28 April, it will be winding the game’s servers down.
In the announcement post, Ubisoft says that it will be using what it had learned from this game in future products. Though short of another original battle royale title, it remains to be seen where else can the parts that made Hyper Scape unique be used.

For the unfamiliar, Hyper Scape was Ubisoft’s attempt to cash in on the free-to-play battle royale fad. While it wasn’t initially met with the warmest of receptions, players soon found that the game was unique in the genre as it had an equal emphasis on verticality as the usual horizontal plane. This provided its own challenge, while also really giving it a unique identity. The cost, which may be what kept people away from it, was that it became too difficult.
All that being said, while the game may have had a small but dedicated player base, it didn’t get much love from its own publisher. According to the game’s own website, the last time Hyper Scape got a content update was in April of 2021. So the writing was kind of on the wall the whole time.
