The odds of Razer actually developing its own smartwatch is very unlikely, especially given the fact that it had exited the smart device market several years back, where the last relevant product being the Razer Phone 2. However, fans could still somewhat experience a wearable from the gaming firm via a collaboration between Razer and watchmaker Fossil.
Just recently during CES 2022, both companies have jointly revealed a Razer-themed Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch. While it looks no different from the base model, it does come with watchfaces and effects featuring the gaming firm’s branding and colours. Unfortunately, it does not come equipped with RGB lighting, but you can customise its interface to display Chroma-esque breathing or wave effects on-screen.
Again, like the original, the Razer X Fossil Gen 6 features a 44mm stainless steel case, a 1.28-inch display, a Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chipset, 8GB of storage, and 1GB of RAM. It currently runs on Wear OS 2 out of the box, but it is expected to be eligible for the newer Google-Samsung developed Wear OS 3 update in the near future. The watch comes with Bluetooth 5.0 LE, Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC support, PPG heart rate and blood oxygen sensors, as well as a compass and altimeter.
Other than that, it is rated 3ATM in terms of water resistance and features a battery that is claimed to last up to two days, with fast-charging capability that is said to top-up 80% of its capacity in just 30 minutes. The Razer-themed Fossil Gen 6 also comes with two interchangeable straps in either black or green – both reflecting the gaming firm’s signature colours for its branding.
According to both companies, the Razer x Fossil Gen 6 is expected to be released later this month, limited to only a total of – you guessed it – 1,337 units worldwide. Pricing-wise, the collaborative smartwatch will retail at US$329 (~RM1,385), although its local price and availability has yet to be determined.
