Tenaga National Berhad (TNB) has announced that it will be giving a 100% rebate for the December 2021 electricity bill to 72,000 domestic customers that were affected by the floods. According to TNB, the rebates total RM9 million and will be a one-off distribution.
Adding to that, the company is also providing free electrical wiring inspections to B40 households hit by the floods to ensure safety. This service will be done by Persatuan Rakan Niaga Strategik Malaysia (PERNISMA), Persatuan Elektrik dan Elektronik Malaysia (TEEAM), TNB Energy Services (TNBES), and 50 contractor firms that have agreed to join the volunteering efforts.
TNB has not yet given any details as to when these rebates will be given out. It also hasn’t specified who exactly will be eligible nor has it given a method to apply, so customers who wish to get the rebate will have to wait for an update from TNB.
The state-owned firm isn’t the first to offer assistance to flood victims; companies including Samsung, Telekom Malaysia, OPPO, Acer, and ASUS have also offered free repair services to the affected. Even the local NFT community has banded together to donate to NGOs and provide on-the-ground help.
