Depending on your music listening habits, you may have been inclined to listen to an album on Spotify on shuffle by default. And indeed, that has been the default for the music streaming platform for the longest time. But now, at the request from Adele, the service is changing it so that albums play in their original order by default.
The singer clarified on Twitter that she did indeed make the request to Spotify. She says that albums tell a story and they “should be listened to as we intended”. With the change in place, the play button on any album page plays their tracks in their original order.
Anything for you 🙏✨

Not that the ability to shuffle tracks is gone forever. Once you’ve started playing a song in an album, you can simply head to the Now Playing screen and toggle the option from there. It’s also important to note that this only applies to paid subscribers.
Though all in all, unless you have an extremely particular preference to your music-listening ways, this change should not impact your use of Spotify. After all, chances are once you’re done listening to an album, you’ll pick out the songs you like and throw them into your own custom playlist anyway. But at least with this change Adele gets you to listen to her new Album called “30” in the correct order at least once.
