It is expected that Xiaomi will be announcing its new flagship smartphone line in the first quarter of the new year, which is just a couple of months away now. Naturally, the closer it gets, the more likely that a couple of leaks will eventually surface online. The latest of which now suggests that the series, allegedly known as the Xiaomi 12, will feature a camera system by a familiar brand: Leica.
Word of this was made known by industry insider Digital Chat Station via Weibo. According to the leakster, Xiaomi has supposedly signed a partnership with the German camera maker to feature its branding on the Ultra variant of the upcoming flagship series. It was not mentioned what sort of contribution Leica is offering to the phone’s camera setup.
So far, this has been the second leak related to the Xiaomi 12, with the first being a couple of live photos that allegedly feature the phone (or a version of it) spotted in the wild. Unfortunately, there’s no way of corroborating this rumour with the one prior, as the photos only depict the front design of the device while the rest of it are hidden under a thick case. That being said, it is revealed that the phone sports a tall aspect ratio – a feature that is currently exclusive to Sony’s recent Xperia smartphones.
Whether either leak is accurate or not remains to be seen. But as we’ve mentioned earlier, expect more unofficial details regarding the Xiaomi 12 to make their way online as its launch date looms ever closer.
