Huawei today has officially launched the new nova 9 smartphone in Malaysia. Like the other handsets from the series, the company’s latest entry is marketed as a midranger but comes with premium-like features such as a curved display, and a large 1/1.56-inch 50MP main camera.
The Huawei nova 9 sports a 6.57-inch curved OLED display with thinner bezels and larger screen-to-body ratio, especially when compared to the nova 8 model that was released in August. It also offers a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10 support, a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, a top-centered cutout for its selfie camera, and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Situated on the bottom of the phone is a USB-C port for charging and data transfers. And just in case you’re wondering, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack. As with the brand’s more recent mobile device releases, the new phone also runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS platform and its HMS ecosystem.
Instead of featuring the company’s first-party Kirin SoC, the new phone instead is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G which can support up to 4G connectivity. Paired together with it is 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Powering the phone is a 4,300mAh battery with 66W fast charging support, which is claimed to be able to fully charge the nova 9 in just 38 minutes.
On the back of the handset is a quad-camera setup consisting of the aforementioned 1/1.56-inch 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide angle, 2MP depth, and a 2MP macro sensor. Video-wise, the nova 9’s imaging system is capable of recording 4K or 1080p resolution footage, as well as 720p slow-motion videos at 960 fps. Housed within its display’s punch-hole cutout is a 32MP front-facing camera.
The new Huawei nova 9 is priced at RM1,999 and is expected to be shipped out in Malaysia sometime later this month. Pre-orders for the new phone are available from today until 19 November 2021 via the Huawei online store, its official stores on Lazada and Shopee, as well as Senheng. In terms of colour options, the nova 9 is offered in Starry Blue and Black colourways.
