We know ondeh ondeh as a kind of dessert made of rice cakes with palm sugar (gula Melaka) and coconut flakes. Now, it’s also the name of an upcoming video game by local devs Metronomik. This is the studio that made No Straight Roads, in case you need an introduction.
The studio released a short teaser for the game. Not much is being shown just yet, but it gives an idea as to what the game will look like. As you’d expect, the game will also be an audio-based game, but the studio says that it will be “totally different” to No Straight Roads.
We're thrilled to announce the name of our second game, Ondeh Ondeh, named after the popular dessert in Malaysia!
It'll still be audio-centric like #NoStraightRoads, but weirder and more fantastical.

As to what the differences are, Metronomik says that it will have a “weirder and fantastical” setting. The company also says that, considering the positive feedback regarding the bits on Malaysian culture in No Straight Roads, Ondeh Ondeh will lean more heavily into those elements.
All that being said, it looks like it will be awhile before the game will get released, or even have a date announced. No word on which platforms it will be available on either. Hopefully Metronomik shares details on these the next time it has more to share on Ondeh Ondeh.
