Renders featuring the Galaxy S22 series by OnLeaks made their way online in late September, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from Samsung’s first major launch event next year. What stood out from the leak was undoubtedly the Ultra variant, which is shown to feature a completely different design from its siblings – almost Galaxy Note-like even. Now, a new set of photos that supposedly feature live shots of this particular model have recently surfaced online.
Shared by website FrontPage Tech (via GSMArena), these images showcase the front and rear design of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which seemingly confirms OnLeaks’ renders to a certain degree. As per this new image set, the phone is shown to feature a Samsung Galaxy Note-like look – complete with a curved display, a frame with sharp corners, and an S-Pen integrated on its bottom left. The website did not mention if these photos were supplied by an external source, or if it had somehow secured a preview unit of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
As revealed by the earlier leak, the rear camera layout of the Ultra variant appears differently, seemingly ditching the Galaxy S21-like rear bump – a design that is retained on the flagship series’ standard and Plus models. However, unlike what was illustrated in the renders, the live photos show that the phone’s cameras are laid out in a minimalist arrangement rather than housed within a P-shaped island. It’s also worth noting that fellow leakster Ice Universe was quick to call out OnLeaks’ inaccuracy when the leak was shared back in September.
Unfortunately, no details regarding the specifications of the Galaxy S22 Ultra were provided by FrontPage Tech. But as teased by Samsung a while back, it is very likely that all three models will be equipped with the company’s latest Exynos chipset which would feature AMD’s RDNA 2 technology for processing and graphics acceleration.
GSMArena believes that the Ultra variant would feature the same camera hardware as its predecessor – a 108MP sensor for its primary shooter, two 10MP for its telephoto and periscope cameras, and a 12MP ultra-wide angle sensor. Meanwhile, Ice Universe claims that all four rear cameras would feature optical image stabilisation (OIS) while both of the model’s telephoto and periscope shooters are said to be equipped with a new continuous zoom technology.
Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series is expected to launch in either late January or early February of next year. On the other hand, also rumoured to be unveiled ahead of the next-gen flagship models is the much delayed Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, which would potentially make its debut during CES 2022.
