Back in September, The Pokemon Company announced that it is retiring the old TCG Online app in favour of the newer, more polished TCG Live. At the time, the company announced that there will be a global open beta at the end of the year. But it looks like those plans have been pushed back to 2022.
The Pokemon Company announced the delay via the official TCG Twitter account. In it, the company says the reason for pushing back the Pokemon TCG Live beta was to provide a more polished experience. Unfortunately, no details where shared as to what aspect of the game still needed polishing.
Additionally, some of you may have recently received code cards with Pokémon TCG Live branding as part of some Pokémon TCG products. Though Pokémon TCG Live is not available at this time, please know these cards are still redeemable in Pokémon TCG Online.

On a related note, a follow-up tweet says some players of the physical card game may have gotten code cards with the Pokemon TCG Live branding. The company says that they will be valid on the existing Pokemon TCG Online game. Which is only fair since the new version’s release has been pushed back.
No new dates were provided as for when the open beta will be, well, open. At least not beyond the wide window of 2022. The Pokemon Company says that it will share more soon on both the beta and full launch of the new Pokemon TCG Live. So if you’re not keen on the current version and are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new one, it’s not going to be a pleasant wait.
