The government has announced another e-wallet centric programme for youths called eStart under the newly tabled Bajet 2022. Complete with an allocation of RM300 million, the new initiative will be involving teens aged between 18 and 20, as well as full-time tertiary students.
Through eStart, a one-off transaction of RM150 will be deposited into eligible individuals’ e-wallet account, although there’s no detail yet on which e-wallet services will be participating this time around. According to Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz, the programme is expected to benefit two million youths across the country.
This is the fourth such distribution of its kind, following the RM150 eBelia credit distributed earlier this year, as well as the RM50 ePenjana credit given back in 2020. The first e-wallet credit government scheme which was called e-Tunai Rakyat gave RM30 to all adults earning under RM100,000 per year.
However, further details regarding eStart were not mentioned by Tengku Zafrul during today’s tabling of Bajet 2022. Hence, you have to keep a look out for further clarifications from the Ministry of Finance in the coming months.
