Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is getting a makeover via the upcoming trilogy remaster. And it looks like the game is getting the VR treatment as well. More specifically, it is getting the Oculus Quest 2 treatment.
The subsidiary of Meta made the announcement during the same event the parent company’s name change was announced. While the company claimed that this is “a project many years in the making”, it’s not showing any screenshots of what it’s like.
Naturally, this raises the question of if the VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be made based on the original PS2 version of the game or the upcoming remaster. No doubt that either way, it will be a fresh experience for a familiar game. But if fans first dip their toes in a San Andreas made with Unreal Engine 4, the jump to VR that takes them back to the original PS2 graphics can be a jarring experience. Then there’s the question of the changes to controls.
At any rate, there’s still no release date for the Oculus Quest 2 version of GTA: San Andreas just yet. Or indeed the Meta Quest 2, since the company decided to drop the Oculus Branding.
