Mola TV To Make Its Official Debut In Malaysia This Week

Its entry into our market is part of the streaming service's international expansion.

Hailing from Indonesia, Mola TV will be making its official debut in Malaysia later this month. The streaming service’s entry into Malaysia is part of its massive market expansion which also covers the UK, Italy, and Singapore.

Owned by Polytron, a gadget and electrical company which itself is a subsidiary of Djarum Group, Mola was originally launched in 2019. At the moment, we do not know the amount of content that is available through the service but we have learned that Mola currently holds the streaming rights to several major sports competitions in its home market including the English Premier League (EPL), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), National Football League (NFL), and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

The service’s sports offering also covers selected Indonesian and European football competitions. Outside of the sporting world, Mola maintains content partnerships with several international entertainment companies such as HBO and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM).

Mola has also produced an original reality TV series called Dream Chasers Garuda Select which depicts the journey of selected young Indonesian football talents as they go through intensive talent development training in Europe. Aside from that, the streaming services has also worked on music concert series called Mola Chill Fridays and it also plans to release a movie called Quagliarella, The Untold Story will debut once its international market expansion takes place later this month.

According to reports by Indonesian media last week, Mola will be made available in Malaysia on 29 October. In terms of pricing, all Mola’s international market will be charged the same monthly fee of USD8 (~RM34) although a quick check on its iOS App Store’s Malaysian listing showed the fee could be as little as RM 3.90:

However, we are yet to be able to verify the accuracy of the price list above for the time being as we encountered the error below when we tried to access the Subscribe Now section of Mola’s app despite successfully registering an account:

Given the Disney+ Hotstar pricing discrepancy that we encountered on iOS App Store back in June, it is possible the actual pricing that Mola users in Malaysia have to pay is vastly different from what is being shown there at the moment.

We are also curious about the exact content offerings that Mola has for Malaysia and we believe what is currently being shown on its mobile and Android TV app, as well as the official website, has not yet been finalised for our market. For example, we think Astro may have something to say about this view:

We reckoned the image above could ruffle some feathers over at Astro. Then again, it is not going to be long before we get to know more about the service anyway since we are just mere days away from Mola’s arrival date in Malaysia. So, stay tuned.
