KTMB Resumes Full ETS Routes For Interstate Travel

Interstate journeys for fully vaccinated passengers begins 14 October.

The wait is over as KTMB has announced that its Electric Train Service (ETS) and Intercity services will resume operating its routes starting from 14 October. This comes after Malaysia lifted the restrictions on interstate travel this week after hitting the 90% benchmark for adult vaccinations.

Throughout most of the pandemic, KTMB had periodically reduced ETS routes and until recently, only operated the service between KL and Ipoh. Now, Malaysians can purchase tickets to go anywhere between Gemas and Padang Besar, just as before. The Intercity trains in Johor, which travel between Gemas and JB Sentral, will also be resuming operations on Thursday.

KTM ETS Interstate Train Routes and Schedule

Although most people will be elated by the resumption of ETS, one caveat is that most of the routes are scheduled with only one journey per day, except for the KL Sentral-Ipoh route which has two daily trips. With such limited availability, you might want to book your tickets early for any journeys in the near future.

Tickets go on sale today and commuters can make bookings at KTMB’s official website, the KTMB Mobile app, or by using a ticket kiosk at train stations. The first 10,000 people can also get RM5 off their ticket purchase by using the code BOLEHRENTAS.

KTM ETS Fully Vaccinated Rules

Be reminded that only those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are allowed to travel interstate, and KTMB says that they will be checking. Before you board, you will have to show them your vaccination card or your vaccination certificate on MySejahtera, which you can also print out. It goes without saying that commuters will have to mask up for the entire journey.
