The reveal of the Steam Deck back in July sort of brought back enthusiasm for mobile gaming. Understandable, since the only other modern avenue for that prior to the announcement was the Nintendo Switch. But now, it looks like there was supposed to be an announcement for an Android alternative, called the Lenovo Legion Play.

Liliputing reports that, hidden in the code of the company’s Germany and Japan websites were references to the Lenovo Legion Play. These indicated that the Android handheld gaming device was supposed to be part of the company’s MWC announcements, but that never happened.

The images in the website code came with a text description of the Lenovo Legion Play. This included things like a 7-inch 16:9 bezel-less display, HDR 10 support, and a 7000mAh battery. Though these should all be taken with a pinch of salt, since the image themselves clearly show a display with bezels, and not particularly thin ones at that either. At the time of writing, the images as well as the text description have not been scrubbed from either websites.

All that being said, the Lenovo Legion Play does have the makings of an Android handheld gaming device. The control scheme is decidedly Nintendo-esque, what with the location of the d-pad and left analogue stick, as well as the X,Y, A and B face buttons. There’s a USB-C port that it uses to presumably charge and connect to a PC, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Considering that Lenovo may have decided to announce the Legion Play during MWC but decided against it, its fate is currently uncertain. The discovery could point to either a delay or a cancellation outright, and only the company would know which it is.
