Aside from Surface Duo 2, Surface Pro 8, and Surface Laptop Studio, Microsoft’s Surface launch event last night also marked the debut of Surface Go 3. As opposed to the three other models we mentioned earlier, the Go 3 mainly revolves around new processors instead of offering any new design updates.
The Go 3 still has the same magnesium body in Platinum colourway together with Surface’s signature kickstand and features a 10.5-inch Full HD PixelSense touch display. It is also equipped with a 5MP front camera, Windows Hello face authentication camera, 8MP rear camera, dual far-field microphones, and 2W stereo speakers alongside Dolby Audio enhancement.
Microsoft also didn’t implement any changes to the I/O ports on the Go 3 which still includes a USB-C and 3.5mm audio jack as well as ports for Surface Connect, and Surface Type Cover. The tablet also still comes with a microSDXC card reader which allows users to easily expand Go 3’s storage.
Just like Go 2, Microsoft is still using eMMC-based storage for the 64GB variant of Go 3 while the 128GB model gets a solid state drive. The company also noted that the new model now has 11 hours of battery life which is one hour longer than its predecessor.
Aside from being pre-installed with Windows 11 Home in S Mode, the only new thing about Go 3 is its processor. Users have the choice to obtain the tablet with either an Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y or Intel Core i3-10100Y which came from the Amber Lake Y family of processors.
Immediately after the launch event, the Go 3 was listed on Surface Malaysia’s website. Not only that, the site has also noted that the tablet is already available for pre-order.
Out of all retailers that were listed on Surface Malaysia’s website, only All IT Hypermarket has begun to accept pre-orders for the device at the time this article was published. Here is the price for Go 3 in Malaysia based on the listing at the All IT’s website:
Pentium Gold 6500Y / 4GB RAM / 64GB storage – RM1,888
Pentium Gold 6500Y / 8GB RAM / 128GB storage – RM2,588
Core i3-10100Y / 8GB RAM / 128GB storage – RM2,988
If this price list is true, that means the Go 3 costs slightly less than the Go 2 when it was launched back in 2020. However, do note that the pricing above is not inclusive of Type Cover or Surface Pen which has to be purchased separately if you plan to have the full Surface experience with Go 3.
Not to forget, only the Wi-Fi variants of Go 3 will be available at launch as the LTE-A model will only be released at a later time. Meanwhile, we have since reached out to Microsoft Malaysia to obtain further confirmation regarding Surface Go 3’s release in our market, so stay tuned.
(UPDATE – 6:15 PM): Microsoft Malaysia has since verified the pricing information that we have listed above through an official announcement on its news centre. Additionally, the company also said that Surface Go 3 will roll out into our market on 5 October, just like Windows 11.
