Microsoft today has unleashed several new Surface products that have been positioned to welcome the arrival of Windows 11 next month. On top of the list is the Surface Laptop Studio which the company dubbed as the most powerful Surface that it has ever built.
What really makes the new model shine is not just its internal hardware but also its form factor which utilises a floating hinge called Dynamic Woven Hinge. While Microsoft is not the first company to implement this particular design (Acer ConceptD 7 Ezel comes to our mind), it provides some fresh air to the Surface family.
In general, the Surface Laptop Studio has three modes including the standard Laptop mode which is similar to any traditional laptop with a clamshell design. Users can then pull out the display and bring it over the keyboard into the Stage mode which Microsoft claims is meant for gaming, video consumption, and presentations.
From there, users can transition further into the Studio mode by folding the display into tablet position. As the name suggests, this particular mode is meant for artists, design professionals, and content creators that want to use the convertible as their creative canvas.
Meanwhile, the Surface Laptop Studio is equipped with a 14.4-inch PixelSense Flow touch display which has a native resolution of 2400 x 1600 alongside a 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision support. Microsoft has also allocated space under the front part of its keyboard whereby users can magnetically store and charge the equally new Surface Slim Pen 2 which is available as a separate accessory.
In terms of firepower, the new Surface Laptop Studio can be obtained with either Intel Core i5-11300H or Core i7-11370H. However, the Core i5 is limited to the integrated Iris Xe Graphics while the Core i7 variant is accompanied by NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics with 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM.
As the convertible is powered by the 11th Gen Intel Core H35 processor, it is not surprising to see two USB 4.0 with Thunderbolt 4 ports and Wi-Fi 6 support on Surface Laptop Studio. With the help of a 58WHr battery, Microsoft claimed that the Surface Laptop Studio can easily last up to 19 hours.
Available with up to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB solid state drive, the new Surface flagship model has a starting price of US$1,599.99 (~RM6,708). Just like Windows 11 itself, the Surface Laptop Studio can be obtained in selected markets starting from 5 October onwards.
