Back in February, Bloomberg reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment will roll out the update that will unlock its SSD expansion slot in summer. Now that we’re at the edge of the season, it looks like the report is accurate after all. SIE has announced that it is rolling out a major update that does just that, plus other important improvements.
Going through some of the improvements, another major improvement is bringing 3D audio to standard TV speakers. This will make use of the DualSense controller for calibration. Another major improvement is the clear labeling of a game’s version, if you have both PS4 and PS5 versions installed. This will make it a lot easier for you to manage your storage.
PS5's next major system software update lands tomorrow. UX enhancements, 3D audio for built-in TV speakers, M.2 SSD storage expansion, and more: https://t.co/AXYrlnyGkI

Of course, there are other smaller improvements, like being able to rearrange the buttons at the control centre, and the ability for a party leader to disband parties without emptying the party first. The PS mobile app also now allows you to watch a friend’s gameplay via voice chat on the app.
You can check out all that the update has to offer either via the embedded tweet, or the PlayStation Blog page linked below. Just ignore the stuff about PlayStation Now, since it’s not officially a service that’s available here.
