As opposed to some rumours that we have heard prior to today’s “California Streaming” event, Apple ultimately has decided to call its new phone the iPhone 13 instead of the iPhone 12s. Interesting enough, the company has also set the pre-order and availability date for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini in Malaysia, unlike other new devices that it has launched tonight such as the 6th generation iPad mini, 9th generation iPad, and Apple Watch Series 7.
Before we go further, let’s talk about the pricing first. According to Apple Malaysia’s website, this is how much the phone going to cost in our market:
iPhone 13 mini 128GB: RM3,399
iPhone 13 mini 256GB: RM3,899
iPhone 13 mini 512GB: RM4,799
iPhone 13 128GB: RM3,899
iPhone 13 256GB: RM4,399
iPhone 13 512GB: RM5,299
When compared to last year’s iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, you may notice that the starting price is the same. However, the base storage option for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini is 128GB as opposed to 64GB on their predecessors.
Hence, those who opt to purchase iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 mini with 128GB and 256GB are paying less than the early adopters of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini last year. On another hand, this is also the first time that Apple has offered the 512GB storage option for non-Pro/XS iPhone models.
In terms of availability, Apple will begin taking pre-orders for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini in Malaysia starting from 1 October ahead of its rollout a week later on 8 October. You may want to check with your favourite Apple Authorized Reseller (AAR) or telcos for further details if you plan to purchase these new phones through physical stores or telco plans.
