It took longer than expected, but Malaysian YouTube users are now able to access the Super Chat and Super Sticker features to support their favourite content creators on the platform. The real-time donation function appears to have been made available just recently in our region, as first reported by our friends over at Amanz.
For the uninitiated, YouTube first debuted Super Chat back in 2017 as an additional donation feature for content creators. The whole gist of the function is that it allows viewers to donate a predetermined amount of money in real time during live streams, with the purpose of having their message pinned on the very top of the chat list for a certain duration. This enables it to be given a priority in the list, making it immediately visible to the content creator. For the Malaysian region, Super Chat donations range from as low as RM3 and capped at a maximum of RM1,500 – the more you donate, the longer your message remains visible when pinned.
Super Sticker feature, on the other hand, works more or less in the same vein as Super Chat. Obviously, the main difference between the two is that viewers using this function will be sending creators animated stickers instead of messages. It’s also worth noting that these stickers vary in terms of pricing and in our region’s case, these may cost from RM6 to RM150. Again, the more costlier the sticker is, the longer it will appear pinned on top. You may also select a variety of sticker themes by exploring all of the available tabs representing each one.
To access these features, simply tap on the cash icon on the chat box sidebar during a live streaming session. From there you’ll be given the option to either donate to the creator via Super Sticker or Super Chat, as well as an option for subscribing to the channel’s premium membership. Keep in mind that you are first required to have a YouTube account in order to access either feature.
