A leak detailing DJI’s unannounced Osmo Mobile 5 gimbal has made its way online, courtesy of Roland Quandt from German publication WinFuture. Unlike its predecessors, this new model is shown to feature a retractable mount akin to those found on traditional selfie sticks – but with a controllable 3-axis gimbal, of course.
In a set of images shared by the leakster, the DJI Osmo Mobile 5 is shown to feature a slanted grip like the older models, but with its control interface integrated seamlessly on the handle. In regards to the latter, the controls still consist of a thumbstick and two buttons. Quandt says that when folded, the new device measures at around 6.7 inches.
As mentioned earlier, new to this model is the retractable gimbal mount which could be extended for taking wider selfies, or for shooting at certain angles. It is not mentioned whether the mechanism is motorised or not. The mount itself inherits the magnetic system that was introduced on last year’s Osmo Mobile 4, which allows you to attach and detach your phone from the device with ease.
Apparently, one concerning drawback found on the Osmo Mobile 5 is its battery life. According to Quandt, the new gimbal could only last up to over 6 hours on a single charge, which is significantly less than its predecessor’s 15-hour usage time.
btw… DJI OM 4 SE is also incoming: 99$ and basically the same as the original OM4, but w/o the magnetic smartpone holder. https://t.co/dQO5LhKMMQ

The leakster also says that the new Osmo Mobile 5 would retail at EUR159 (~RM782), and is slated to launch on 8 September 2021 – a date that was also teased by DJI late last month. Besides the next gen gimbal, it is suggested that DJI may also launch a SE version of its Osmo Mobile 4 that retains most of the features from the original, except for the magnetic mounting system on its gimbal.
