Bose has lifted the drape off from its new QuietComfort 45 Noise Cancelling Smart Headphones, the successor to the QuietComfort 35 II model that was launched all the way back in 2017. With plenty of time in between, you can be certain that the audio brand has equipped the new device with plenty of next generation improvements and features.
The QuietComfort 45 might disappoint users in terms of design, as it appears mostly identical to its 2017 predecessor. While the headphones lack in terms of visual appearance, it makes up with its upgraded internal hardware. The new device is packed with exclusive Bose audio technologies, promising a high fidelity listening experience for music and other content. Each earcup features the brand’s proprietary TriPort acoustic architecture that adds “depth and fullness” to the headphone’s audio output. Then there’s the Volume-optimised Active EQ feature which is designed to boost highs and lows, while at the same time keeping bass levels consistent regardless of volume level.
As implied by its lengthy name, the new headphones come with noise-cancelling features, provided by Bose’s own in-house developed Acoustic Noise Cancelling technology. Despite its naming, it functions similarly to most ANC tech found on other headphones, where it relies on built-in microphones to detect and cancel out external noises in order for the user to focus on the device’s audio output. There’s also the Aware Mode which basically disables the noise-cancelling, and uses the mics to instead pick up and output the surrounding environment’s audio through the headphones for the sake of, well, awareness.
Bose touts the QuietComfort 45 to feature a battery life that lasts up to 24 hours of playback, although it is unspecified whether this is with ANC enabled or disabled. It is claimed that the headphones will take two and a half hours of charging time for a full top-up via USB-C, while a brief 15-minute charge will grant you three hours of playback.
The Bose QuietComfort 45 Noise Cancelling Smart Headphones are available in two colourways: Black and White Smoke. It is available for pre-order now at US$330 (~RM1,370) and will be released in the US on 23 September 2021. Bose Malaysia has yet to confirm whether the new headphones will be making its way to local stores. And for your reference, the brand is currently selling its predecessor, the QuietComfort 35, at a discounted price of RM1,247.20 via Bose Malaysia’s official store on Lazada.
