Back in July, we saw a new variant of the PS5 console appearing in SIRIM’s database. Evidence at the time points to the console with the new wireless module. It looks like Australia has gotten their version of the new variant, and it looks like there are more tangible changes that can be observed from the outside.
Press Start Australia reports that the PS5 with the model number CFI-1102A has appeared on the country’s shores. The outlet also says that, according to someone who bought the new console, it comes with a new screw. The new screw allows you to put on and remove the console’s stand without the need for a screwdriver.
For the most part, a new screw is a very minor detail on the PS5 as a whole. But if you’re someone who has to transport the console around a lot, or just like to flip between having it sit horizontally and vertically, then this is a major improvement.
Previously, Press Start also reported that the newer PS5 variant would be 300g lighter than the original models, at least for the Digital Edition. This would bring the weight of the console from 3.9kg down to 3.6. It remains to be seen if this is an actual change for the new variant across the board. Ditto the reportedly new wireless module that was widely reported on last month.
