Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold3 foldable smartphone is now out of the bag, having officially been announced during the brand’s Galaxy Unpacked event. The new phone is the Korean brand’s latest addition to its ZF Fold series lineup, as well as its third generation of foldable devices.
Specs-wise, the Z Fold3’s main display is a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display that folds inwards, has a pixel density of 374 PPI, and a 120Hz Adaptive Refresh Rate. The Cover Display, on the other hand, is a HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that measures in at 6.2-inch, has a pixel density of 387 PPI, and the same 120Hz Adaptive Refresh Rate.
Still on the display, the Main Display is also the first in its line to make use of an under-display camera. Specifically, it houses a 4MP f/1.8 sensor. As for the Cover Display, the camera sensor itself isn’t an under-display module, but it does have a higher megapixel count at 10MP.
Underneath the hood, the Z Fold3 is surprisingly powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC, 12GB RAM, and a 4400mAh dual battery. In terms of storage, Samsung will offer users two capacity options: 256GB or 512GB, with both using the UFS 3.1 standard.
Much like its predecessors, the Z Fold3 also support 5G connectivity but again, it is limited to the Sub6 and mmWave frequency bands. As for physical security, the phone gets Samsung’s usual fare of a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and facial recognition technology.
Then there’s the phone’s main camera. The module itself houses a triple-camera array, comprised of three 12MP sensors, each designed to handle specific tasks: one ultra-wide f/2.2, one wide-angle with Dual Pixel f/1.8, and a Telephoto f/2.4 with PDAF and up to 10x digital zoom.
As for its price, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 will start from US$1799 (~RM7627). At the time of writing, no local pricing or availability has been announced. In addition to the phone, Samsung is also releasing two new S Pens: the S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro. The S Pen Fold Addition is designed specifically for the Z Fold3 and comes with basic features, such as the Pro tip and Air Commands, just like the note.
The S Pen Pro, on the other hand, is obviously the more premium of the two, containing an LED indicator, Air Actions on top of Air Command, Device Switching, and a USB Socket. At the time of writing, there is still no local pricing for the accessory and it is also obvious that it will not be bundled together with the phone.
