Long before Geralt came along and earned the titles White Wolf and The Butcher of Blaviken, much of The World – no, seriously that is actually the name of the realm in which all the lore and stories in the Witcher happens – and its monsters were being hunted by Vesemir, among other Witchers at the time.
To the uninitiated, Vesemir is the mentor and a sort of father-figure to Geralt. In The Witcher lore, Vesemir is considered to be one of the most experienced and seasoned Witchers and member of the School Of the Wolf. In the video game series, Vesemir spends most of his days at Kaer Morhen as a fencing instructor, although he does take on the odd monster hunter job here and there, as evidenced at the beginning of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
As for the animated series, Nightmare of the Wolf is a prequel and follows a younger but definitely experienced Vesemir, as he travels around the lands of the Northern hemisphere, doing what he does best: hunting and killing monsters.
All in all, the Netflix exclusive series is being animated by the South Korean Studio Mir, while its production is being done by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who is also responsible for the production of the live-action Witcher series, which stars Henry Cavill as Geralt.
As for the case, Vesemir will be voiced by actor Theo James, which is a bit of a surprise and ironic. Prior to this, the actor was also the voice actor for Hector, the Devil Forgemaster responsible for producing undead monsters in the Netflix adaptation of Castlevania.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is scheduled to launch on Netflix on 23 August, 2021.
