Back in May, Twitch announced that it will have localised subscription pricing for countries outside of the US. It looks like it is finally happening, as the country now has a list of prices for Tier 1 subscriptions for a long list of countries in the Asia Pacific region. Fortunately, Malaysia is also among them.
According to the list, the new price for a Tier 1 sub for Malaysians is RM7.99. This used to be RM20.99, which is closer to the US price of US$4.99. That’s about a 62% reduction in price. And there’s no way around it, but the new price is at least a lot lighter on our wallets and bank accounts.

Of course, that’s from the subscriber’s point of view. For the streamers, it still means that they are getting less per sub. But Twitch said before that the lowered subscription prices will increase subscription count. And this will lead to an overall increase in revenue. The Amazon subsidiary did say that it will be subsidising losses over 12 months.
If it is as the company says, then this is good news for Twitch streamers, at least in the short term. Though it does still leave streamers in a more precarious situation in the long run.
