Back in June, news cropped up about a bug that caused Western Digital’s (WD) Black Series SN850 PCIe 4.0 SSD to perform well below its stated performance on systems running on AMD’s X570 motherboards. The good news is that the data storage brand is releasing a firmware update that addresses the issue.
To recap, the issue with the SN850 first came to light when X570 users began to notice that the PCIe 4.0 SSD’s write speeds were significantly lowered than what WD said it could do. Specifically, the SSD’s write speeds on AMD X570 motherboards were nearly halved. That said, it would still reach speeds of nearly 3000MB/s but clearly, it was nowhere near its rated 5,300MB/s write speeds.
It didn’t take long for WD to acknowledge the issue, stating that it would release an update for the SN850 soon, which leads us to the present-day situation. So, if you happen to be running your system off an SN850, you can download the firmware update directly from WD’s Digital Dashboard utility.
